Longhorn Restaurant in Works for Gateway Station

The company hasn't yet closed on the land purchase, but a deal is in the works.

A deal to bring a Longhorn Steakhouse to Barrow County is in the works but the company hasn't closed on the land purchase, Wayne Bartlett with Maynard and Bartlett Realty Group wrote in an e-mail to Barrow Patch.

Longhorn Steakhouses are one of several brands under the Darden family of restaurants, which includes Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Bahama Breeze.

If the restaurant opens, it will be part of Gateway Station off Ga. Highway 316, a planned 14,000-square-foot development. Bartlett confirmed Monday a Varsity restaurant will be built at the site. The location will be a "Varsity Junior" and similar in size to Chick-fil-A

The planned development is set to feature a splash fountain similar to the one at Mall of Georgia and a clock tower.

I'd much rather see one real restaurant with a real chef preparing great food than any more chain restaurants (or members of families of restaurants) using cooks to prepare decent food for the masses. I had hoped that someone would recognize that we still must drive out of Barrow County to get a great meal.

Keep dreaming, James. We live in Winder, not Brookhaven or Alpharetta! It'd be nice, but never gonna happen. I'm excited about the Longhorn! For the grocery, I'd love a Kroger or Whole Foods. We have to drive a good ways for those. Other things I'd like to see are Smoothie King, Bruster's, ULTA, among others. Please no more dollar stores. Nothing says keep driving to people than dollar store after dollar store!

I would love to see a Steak and Shake... Something that is open 24 hours other than Waffle House! A Kroger or Whole Foods would be GREAT! A yogurt place, and some small town, locally owned places would be nice too, but I don't know that it will happen.
