Forever striving to provide a pleasant experience to residents, visitors and merchants alike, the town of Bethlehem has recently added a new webpage devoted to business permits and acquiring a business license within town limits.
Business licenses are issued to businesses — both new and existing — each year. Rates are $25 for businesses that employ up to three people, and $25 plus $5 per employee for businesses that employ four or more people. The maximum tax liability is $1,000.
While it may be as simple as the click of a mouse to download an application and apply for a business license, all new businesses must be approved by the town council before a license can be issued.
The new webpage also includes links to important forms for existing businesses. All businesses must complete a Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) affadavit and a Department of Revenue (DOR) form every year. Cities in Georgia are required by O.C.G.A. Sec. 50-36-1 to participate in the federal SAVE program. Applicants for public benefits, e.g. business licenses, must produce an affidavit verifying their status as U.S. citizens or as any other legal status. The DOR form is sent to the state to verify that the business is paying adequate sales tax.
Finally, due to the recent passing of a beer and wine ordinance in the town of Bethlehem, businesses that wish to apply to sell beer or wine can find links to the necessary forms on this same webpage. New applicants must complete a Beer/Wine License Application, a Registered Agent form and have a background check performed by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.
