How Do You Feel About Instagram Selling Your Photographs?
New terms of service kick in on Jan. 16, 2013, allowing Instagram to sell your photos. So will you be keeping your Instagram account past that date?
Instagram users got a surprise update to the terms of service this week. Effective January 16, 2013, the social media site has given itself the right to sell your pictures — whether you want them sold or not. According to Moneycnn.com, you can either agree to the new terms of service, including the one allowing them to sell your pictures, or you can delete your account.
The current terms state that "Instagram may place such advertising and promotions on the Instagram Services or on, about, or in conjunction with your Content." The new terms broaden that, allowing for the sale of your pictures. This move comes three months after Facebook's (FB) acquisition of Instagram for $1 billion. According to the story on Moneycnn.com, these new terms would allow such sales as, say, a picture of you shopping in a store, to be sold to the store for use in an ad. Instagram, however, would be the beneficiary of the revenue — not you.
So how do you feel about this? Not a problem — or will you be deleting your Instagram account come Jan. 15?
