The Peach State isn't so peachy when it comes to sexually transmitted diseases — a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows the state is among the highest ranked for reported STD cases. 

The report, "Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance 2011," presents statistics and trends across the United States through 2011. The overview summarizes national surveillance data for 2011 on the three notifiable diseases for which there are federally funded control programs — chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis.

Georgia ranked No. 3 for reported cases of syphilis, behind Louisiana at No. 1 and Maryland at No. 2. The state was at No. 6 for reported cases of gonorrhea and No. 7 for chlamydia.

In February, the CDC reported the bacteria that causes the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhea has become resistant to many forms of antibiotics since the 1930s.
