Final Public Hearings on County Budget Today

The Barrow Journal reports copies of the proposed budget are available for public review at local libraries — Auburn, Statham and Winder — and from the county finance department.

 

The Barrow Journal reports the Barrow County Board of Commissioners is holding two public hearings on the county's proposed budget and tax increase for FY2013, which begins Oct. 1.

Hearings will be held at noon and 6 p.m. today at the county administration building

The newspaper reports copies of the proposed budget are available for public review at local libraries — Auburn, Statham and Winder — and from the county finance department

The millage rate for most of the county is set to rise from the current 10.993 mills to 13.509 mills. In Winder, where the county tax rate is rolled back to account for an additional municipal fire tax, the rate is to rise to 10.957 mills. According to the Barrow Journal, lower property assessments this year are expected to absorb most of the impact of the tax rate increases. Click here to read more.
