Canines vs. Felines: Which Pet Rules?

You might be surprised what the statistics show.

Having two rambunctious bulldogs pretty much rules out having a cat.

I don't think a kitty would like the attention from my American bulldog, who thinks cats should play just like he and his brother play. And besides, I like cats that act like dogs.

But it seems felines rule roosts throughout the country. Check out these facts about cats from the National Pet Week website.

  • There are 10 million more cats owned in America than dogs.
  • Cats are less than half as likely to be seen by a veterinarian and receive healthcare.
  • There are "cat-friendly" practices that focus on making trips to the veterinarian less stressful for your cat.
  • Cats CAN be trained.
  • Maine, Vermont, Oregon, Idaho and Washington have the highest percentage of cat-owning households.
  • Do you own dogs or cats? Or both? Tell us in comments.

Cats are not the trainees, they are the trainers. My cat has trained me to give her treats, turn on the faucet for her, get her food at 5 a.m., open the door whenever she finds herself on the wrong side of it, hold perfectly still while she sleeps in my lap, pet her whenever she decides to come between me and my computer, etc.
