Claude,
When I started taking guitar lessons I was eight so I would learn mostly chords because my mind won't be able to focus on theory, but as I got older I learned it. It's great that you are doing scales to build up your fingers! What you should be focusing on really depends on what you want to do with guitar in the future. For instance, if you want to play cover songs, chords are a great thing to practice. My guidance to you is to really build up your fingers. Although bar chords may be difficult, building up your fingers with scales should make it easier. If you are having difficulty with a certain chord, move on to a different one and try again later. Always stay positive! Also there are "cheats" or different ways to play one chord. If you really cannot master a chord, ask your teacher if there is another way to play it. Hope I could help and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck!
