Residents Report Thefts, Harassing Phone Calls and Damaged Mailbox
The following information was taken from incident reports from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.
The following are summaries of recent incidents or calls for assistance to which Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded.
A Pinecrest Road resident reported Feb. 2, 2013, that she had been to the store and when she returned home, she noticed the back door to her residence had been damaged. A deputy observed two large dents in the metal door. The resident said she had noticed strange events happening in the area and asked for extra patrols.
A deputy responding to a Ventura Way residence Feb. 2, 2013, in reference to a verbal dispute overheard an occupant inside state, “I am going to stab someone up in here.” When asked about the statement, the man, as well as several other individuals inside the resident, said he was talking about what he would do if someone came into his home. The man said he suspected the complainant, an individual he had kicked out earlier that day, of stealing food.
A Winder resident reported receiving harassing phone calls Feb. 2, 2013. The complainant said he had received 12 calls to date from a Hispanic male claiming to work for Georgia Power. The caller told the man he needed to pay him $340. When the complainant said his electricity provider was Jackson EMC, the caller reportedly changed his previous statement and said he meant to say Jackson EMC. The caller then told the complainant to go to Walmart, get a pre-paid credit card, put $340 on the card, go to a bank and transfer the funds from the card to the bank. The complainant did as he was told and when he arrived at the bank, a teller advised him he was being scammed and to call 911. According to an incident report, the caller told the complainant if the payment was not made, he would come to the man’s residence to check his power meter and replace his light bulbs. The responding deputy told the complainant to call the sheriff’s office if he received any more calls.
A resident of Pleasant Hill Church Road in Winder reported Feb. 3, 2013, an ATV had been stolen out of his carport. The ATV was valued at $2,500. Also reported stolen were a Q-Beam spotlight valued at $40 and two camouflage jackets valued at $80.
On Feb. 3, 2013, a resident of Rooks Road in Winder reported her mailbox had been damaged, estimating the cost of replacing it at $400.
