Barrow County Restaurant Inspections for Dec. 26: Dead Insects found in Winder Business

The Northeast Health District reports the following health inspection scores for Barrow County. 

 

King Buffet, 221 N. Broad St., Winder
Score: 80 
Date of routine inspection: Dec. 3, 2012 
Critical violation:

  • Violation of: 2-1C. No bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods (Employee was observed taking chopped onions out of prep table with bare hands. Corrected on site by discarding onions and having employee wash hands and put on gloves.) 

Non-critical violations:  

  • Violation of: 4-2A. Food stored covered (Multiple food items stored not covered to protect from contamination — i.e. cooked wings, sweet and sour chicken and chicken on a stick in glass door reach-in cooler and shredded cheese in reach-in under prep table. Corrected on site by covering food products. *REPEAT VIOLATION) 
  • Violation of: 6-2. Proper date marking and disposition (Multiple ready to eat foods prepared in advance not labeled with date prepared. Corrected on site by labeling with date each product was prepared.) 
  • Violation of: 13A. Posted: Permit/Inspection/Choking Poster/Handwashing (Health department inspection record blocked from plain view for customers. **Not posted during complaint investigation on 6-20-2012 either.) 

 

Heart if the City Infusion, 189 W. Athens St., Suite 20, Winder
Score: 92
Date of routine inspection: Dec. 13, 2012
No critical violations
Non-critical violation:

  • Violation of: 2-2D. Adequate handwashing facilities supplied & accessibleViolation of : 6-2. Proper date marking and disposition (No soap at kitchen sink or bar handsink.) 

 

Inokos Express, 42 Piedmont Road, Suite 204, Winder 
Score: 95
Date of routine inspection: Dec. 5, 2012 
No critical violations
Non-critical violations:  

  • Violation of: 17C. Physical facilities installed, maintained, and clean (The floors in kitchen under equipment and in prep sink room soiled with grease, dirt and food debris. *REPEAT VIOLATION) 
  • Violation of: 18. Insects, rodents, and animals not present (Dead insects found on floor in dry storage and under equipment in numerous locations throughout kitchen area.

 

Little Italy, 60 Broad St., Winder
Score: 96
Date of routine inspections: Dec. 11, 2012
No critical violations:
Non-critical violation:  

  • Violation of: 6-2. Proper date marking and disposition (Ready-to-eat foods cooked at an earlier date and divided then frozen then not labeled with date prepared or frozen. Advised management to date label all ready-to-eat foods with date prepared and date frozen foods so that the seven day discard date can be determined.  

 

Magnolia House, 195 W. Athens St., Winder
Score: 98
Date of routine inspection: Dec. 11, 2012
No critical violations
Non-critical violation:  

  • Violation of: 15A. Food and nonfood-contact surfaces cleanable, properly designed, constructed, and used (Ice accumulation around walk-in cooler condensor from leak. Do not store food under leak. *REPEAT VIOLATION) 

 

Barrow Regional Medical Center, 316 N. Broad St., Winder
Score: 99
Date of routine inspection: Dec. 5, 2012
No critical violations:
Non-critical violation:

  • Violation of: 15A. Food and nonfood-contact surfaces cleanable, properly designed, constructed, and used (Walking-in freezer door not tightly closing, creating ice accumulation on floor and wall of freezer.) 

 

Smokin Po-Boys, 67 W. Athens St., Winder 
Score: 99
Date of routine inspection: Dec. 4, 2012 
No critical violations
Non-critical violation:  

  • Violation of: 14C. Single-use/single-service articles: properly stored, used (Single service drink cups out of protective sleeve and not protected from contamination.)

    I know there's a system, but I still don't understand how you find insects, alive or dead, in "numerous locations" and get a 95 on your inspection. Ew!

    My question would be....were they in or out of food? That would be the deal breaker for me. lol

    I will never eat there again. Last time I was there the Kitchen was so nasty. We left.

    Shut these places down...no more putting the public at risk! These places have a grace period to fix but as soon as the yearly inspect is done it's back to usual! Inspections need to be done every 3/4 months period!
