Barrow County Emergency Services Asks Residents to Be Safe Traveling in Rain from Isaac

Today's forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of rain and Isaac is expected to make landfall on the Louisiana coast late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Barrow County Emergency Services shared the following information regarding Tropical Storm Isaac via the department's Facebook page on Monday:

Looks like we will miss all the severe weather, but they are still calling for a lot of rain. Be safe and plan extra time in your travels.

Today's forecast for Barrow County calls for showers with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent and new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. On Wednesday, showers and thunderstorms are likely, with a chance of precipitation at 60 percent.

According to an article posted Monday night by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley said depending on the strength of Isaac, parts of the state — mainly those south and west of Atlanta — could be at risk for tornado development today and Wednesday.

The AJC also reports the storm has resulted in an increase in gas prices, as petroleum companies have been evacuating workers from offshore drilling rigs and cutting refinery production.
