High-Speed Chase Ends with Arrest — Cartersville Patch

A  high-speed chase that ended in an Interstate 75 crash started in Cartersville when a Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a news release the patrol deputy had received a "be on the lookout," or BOLO, alert for a stolen vehicle near Cartersville. Within three minutes, he spotted the allegedly stolen silver Jeep Cherokee in a fitness center parking lot on Collins Drive.

As the deputy approached the car, which appeared unoccupied, the driver suddenly sat up and drove away from the parking lot in the Jeep. The resulting 10-minute pursuit continued on Highway 41 through Cartersville and then I-75 southbound.

It reached speeds of more than 100 mph.

West Nile Virus Spreading to Atlanta Metro Area — Alpharetta Patch

A single case of a person having the West Nile virus has been reported in Fulton County, not long after mosquitoes were found to have the virus in several location -- including at Wills Park in Alpharetta.

The CDC says more human cases have been reported nationally than ever before.

Georgia has a reported 14 human cases, according to the CDC. Ten of those cases are considered neuroinvasive, while four are considered nonneuroinvasive.

Florida Murder Suspect Arrested in Lithonia — Stone Mountain-Redan Patch

The suspect in a deadly shooting in Largo, Florida this past spring has been arrested in Lithonia, authorities said Thursday.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced Eddie Jonathan Todd Walker, 24, was arrested around 11 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 23) on a first-degree murder charge by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Lithonia.

Authorities say Walker, 24, is responsible for the shooting death of Terrence Bernar Thomas, 38, on Patterson Street in Largo. Authorities described the incident as a drug deal gone wrong.
