Are You One of Those People Who Just Hates Valentine’s Day?

If so, you’re not alone.

If there’s one thing we can’t forget in February, it is Valentine’s Day. Romance is all around us — in the stores, on TV and in those little hints we drop for that special someone about just where we would like to dine on Valentine's Day.

But what if you don’t have that special someone in your life right now? Maybe you’ve just suffered a bad break-up. Some people find the approach of Valentine’s Day a time to feel anxious rather than romantic. Some singles have been known to arrange special “non-Valentine” parties Feb. 14 each year — just to make a statement.

According to life coach and author Ken Linder, many people fit into this category. On his website, he has some answers to why this happens. He also has some suggestions on how to change your perspective. He specializes in channeling the energy of toxic emotions, which run especially high for many during the Valentine’s season.

What does Valentine’s Day mean for you? A time to celebrate with someone special every year? Or just another attempt at commercialism that discriminates against those who are between relationships?

Dear god, the LAST thing any woman wants is a box of chocolates and roses on Valentine's Day. EVERY woman gets chocolates and roses. I'm not every woman. Giving me what you give every other woman tells me that you have no originality and that I'm nothing special to you. You should tailor a Valentine's date to her and, trust me, she will make it worth your while. Me personally? You'd be better off giving me a bag of dill pickle chips, a potted fern, and a trip to go skiing or rock climbing than if you gave me dinner, a movie, and chocolate.

Bottom line is that we women want to know that we're special to you, and if you give us what you give every woman, then you tell us that we're not special. But it's more than just a good Valentine's date that's important, it's a HOT date that's important. I don't know about the rest of you ladies, but when a man has completely blown my mind by giving me the perfect date that's exactly what I wanted and the perfect gift that's exactly what I like, I don't just want to go home and clean house. What I really want is for him to keep blowing my mind to the point where I can't think any more and all I want is to pass out from blissful exhaustion, if you catch my drift:

I've been married for 40 years to the same man - he's given me enough. I don't want flowers or candy, he cooks dinner for me almost every night, he works hard and has provided for his family. He's my love and I don't need to hand him a Hallmark card to tell him how I feel, if he doesn't know then I'm doing something wrong.
