106 West to Host Comedy Showcase Benefit
Love Comedy? Come out to the 18+ Comedy Showcase at 106 West in Winder to help a friend from Dacula meet medical expenses related to cancer treatments.
What's worse than hearing a friend has cancer? Hearing that news not once, not twice, not even three times; but hearing that she now has her fourth recurrence with cancer, in the past three years. Her battle is proving two things, that her cancer is relentless and that Robin Hayes is one resilient woman! Robin and Allen, her husband of seventeen years, reside in nearby Dacula. Robin is the mother to Ben, 28, and Lisa who is 26. Robin has been through many surgeries and chemotherapy treatments since 2009 and is currently scheduled to return to M.D. Anderson to have, what hopes to be, the final tumor removed in August 2012. To assist with this trip 106 West is hosting a Comedy Showcase fundraiser Saturday, July 21 and there will be great raffles to boot!
"The evening itself will be alot of fun and not a 'show' typically seen in Winder," says organizer Shannon Mingione. "We're encouraging people to come out, be ready to laugh and bring a few extra dollars too... for the food and raffles."
Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $20 per person (18 and older only please). To avoid paying processing fees to run bank cards, the event is promoting a CASH ONLY evening and will have security on premises. There are only 200 seats to be sold, so plan on arriving early. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. 106 West Performing Arts Venue is located at 106 West Athens Street in Winder. Read on to preview the four great comedians who will share the stage for this evening of love and laughter.
With a unique charm and general ridiculous outlook on life, Marc LaMotte is catching people's attention. Residing in Georgia, he won the 2009 Athens' Last Comic Standing competition, has been featured on Rooftop Comedy’s “Daily 8” and was a stand out at the 2011 SLO
California Comedy Festival. LaMotte has quickly become the new face on the college circuit as he was chosen to perform at three National Association of Campus activities conferences and colleges across the country this past year.
Christian Saslo is a high energy, quick witted and extremely unique entertainer. Sasla has the ability to grab any audience and take them on a hilarious and zany journey. Saslo's comedy is very topical and staccato as he delivers it with a sense of lovable sarcasm and flirtatious charm. He holds nothing back as he runs the gambit of his life talking about marrying into a Jewish Family, his parents’ divorce, life in the United States Air Force and his father’s new found alternative lifestyle. Sasla brings much more than original and hilarious comedy to the table, he loves to incorporate quick, visually stunning illusions into each of his comedy bits.
Shannon Mingione is originally from Florida and moved to Georgia, by default, in 2007. Meaning... she transferred here with a company, who in 2009 let her go, due to budget cuts. Now, you can just call her a "national statistic". A writer for over twenty years, she decided to
take her abstract mind, oversized imagination and absolute foolishness to the stage. "I love doing comedy! It's cheaper than therapy. I started a blog (http://thatshannon.blogspot.com), but stopped because
I was having a hard time differentiating between writing for the blog and writing for the stage; now, I save it all for the stage!" Shannon is raw, clever, unfiltered and unapologetic. If the audience is laughing and forgetting about their woes and worries for the moment, then mission accomplished.
Viet Huynh (pronounced like "hwin") was born and raised in Goose Creek, SC and began his stand-up comedy career in Atlanta. Moving forward, Huynh has used that initial positive buzz to quickly become a favorite at many comedy clubs and venues across the nation. Huynh balances his structural engineering career with a rigorous schedule of multiple performances each week at various comedy clubs and venues. By doing so he has created a new profession by the name of "Comedic Engineering"; the design and delivery of jokes and punchlines. He has shared the stage with many well known comedians and has won a few comedy competitions along the way.
